Tragedy struck South Australia on Saturday as three people lost their lives in separate road crashes. Two women died in a two-car collision at Nangwarry, while a motorcyclist was killed in a crash at Wattle Flat. An 18-year-old woman remains in critical condition after a car crash at St Kilda.

Police in South Australia responded to several serious crashes on Saturday, including a two-car collision at Nangwarry in the south-east that claimed the lives of two women. Police are continuing to investigate a crash at St Kilda that resulted in five young people being taken to hospital, with an 18-year-old woman in a critical condition.

Three people including a motorcyclist have been killed in crashes on South Australia's roads, with five young people taken to hospital after a separate collision in which their car hit a tree. The first of those incidents on Saturday claimed the lives of two women, one of whom died at the scene on the Riddoch Highway in the state's south-east. Emergency services were called to the crash, which involved a station wagon and a ute, just after 10:30am. The station wagon's driver, a 59-year-old woman, could not be saved, and her passenger, a 68-year-old Mount Gambier woman, was taken to hospital but later died, police said.More than 1,000 people have died on Australian roads so far this year. It's the highest year-to-date death toll recorded in more than a decade. The driver and passenger of the ute — two men aged 60 and 23 respectively, both from Mingbool — were not injured in the incident. Hours later, a motorcyclist was killed in a crash involving a car on Main South Road at Wattle Flat, between Myponga and Yankalilla, south of Adelaide. His death occurred a day after another motorcyclist — a 47-year-old man — was killed when his bike hit a tree at Blyth in the mid north.Police are also investigating a crash that left an 18-year-old woman in a critical condition. Emergency services were called to the scene where a car hit a tree at St Kilda about 5:20pm on Saturday. Four other people in the car — a 20-year-old woman, two 19-year-old men, one of whom was the driver, and a 23-year-old man — were also taken to hospital
