Fourth egg from captive-reared Searocket and native-born Imani expected to hatch soon.
Great Lakes piping plover Searocket looks for food near a nest where she laid an egg at Montrose Beach Friday, May 31, 2024, in Chicago. The Park District announced one of her four eggs has hatched.
The eggs were a product of a recent pairing between Searocket and native-born piping plover Imani, who hatched at Montrose in 2021. The Park District and its conservation partners will monitor a protected fence near the nest to ward off and deter predators.
