Three players who could come on Leeds United radar amid bargain opportunity

These players - examples of the types of players Leeds could look at - all see their contracts expire in 2027

players set to enter the final year of their contracts, the Whites will be doing the same back at them. When the 12-month expiry mark comes up on a player’s deal, the parent club has a decision to make; either to offer a renewal to ward off interest parties, sell them on to get a fee, or leave things as they are and risk them leaving for free next year.

For clubs further down the food chain, the scales usually tend to tip towards the sale side, out of necessity. However, there are always three parties in any deal and the player in question must want to leave, which is not always easy when they sit on a nice salary.

However, the vast riches of the Premier League automatically make Leeds an appealing prospect and they will be using their weight in this regard this summer. A number of promising talents are out of contract in 2027. - and Southampton talent Shea Charles both come under this umbrella. They are midfielders, though, and are perhaps not among the priority areas Leeds need this summer.

That’s not to say United will not consider them but rather that there are more pressing matters to attend to. LeedsWe take a look at four players out of contract in 2027 who could come onto Leeds’ radar at some stage. Hamer has been known to be of interest to Leeds in the past, but whether two seasons in the Championship have raised doubts is a valid question.

Still, five goals and 13 assists in 37 league games in a very poor Sheffield United side is a notable return. Leeds are also looking for an attacking midfielder who can play on the wing and Hamer fits the bill. He is in his prime at 28 years old too. But at 5ft 7in, he is not of the height of last year’s recruits - if that is still to be employed this summer, which is no guarantee.

Hamer has played in the Premier League before, but it has been some time since 2023/24. He would still be a gamble, and Leeds perhaps need to take more assured punts this summer. Easy for me to write. Konstantinos is the first choice for Olympiacos, who has won the Europa Conference League and has nine caps for Greece.

Whatever one thinks of the Turkish scene, being a serial winner always helps with four titles and three cups to his name. He will come on the radar of clubs who can offer European football - though perhaps only as a back-up option. Where Leeds can get their foot in the door is by offering him the number one spot.

Aged 23 yet with 131 senior top-level games - including nine Champions League matches - already under his belt, Tzolakis would be a great buy. Leeds would have competition but they are going to for the types of players they will be looking at this summer. Leeds are looking for a back-up left-back to Gabriel Gudmundsson and therefore there will be limited market options.

The club would be asking a player to come in knowing they would not get many minutes. That means either a journeyman or a younger prospect. The appealing aspect about Fortini is that he has played in a wing-back system on both sides. He is 20 years old and will not be demanding game time.

However, the defender - who has European experience - did not play in the league after January due to a combination of injury and being out of favour. That will be a red flag as will the fact he is right-footed. He is over 6ft though…
