New polling reveals widespread anxiety among Scots about rising energy costs, following recent increases in the energy price cap. The survey also highlights concerns about the UK's energy security and reliance on fossil fuels.
Three quarters of Scots are worried about future energy price rises, new polling reveals. It comes as Ofgem’s energy price cap rises again today, increasing utility bills by another 1.2 per cent after an eye-watering 10 per cent hike in October.
Average energy bills remain around £700 a year above where they were in winter 2020/21, shortly before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine sent gas prices skyrocketing. “Ministers north and south of the border also need to work together to provide support for households through fundamentally lower energy costs through a social tariff."
Frazer Scott, Chief Executive of Energy Action Scotland, added: “It is scandalous that in the 21st century in energy rich Scotland that anyone cannot afford to heat their homes to a safe level. Governments have all but removed the vitally important financial support that helps keep the lights on and heating going during this enduring crisis. The health of our friends, our neighbours and our families is suffering.
