There have now been 48 arrests and 38 charges following the disorder in August
Disorder and rioting started after an anti-immigration protest in Belfast on Saturday, August 3, after which a number of minority owned businesses were attacked. In the wake of this, a number of incidents took place around the city over the following weeks.
A 19-year-old man was charged with two counts of riot, arson, criminal damage, and two counts of possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence. He is due before Belfast Magistrates Court on October 18. A 16-year-old boy was charged with riot and is due to appear before Belfast Youth Court on 21st October. As is usual procedure all charges will be reviewed by the PPS.
