The price hikes will apply to both children and adults, as well as fast track and same day applications
British holidaymakers are being warned to renew their passports now, even if they're still valid, as the cost of applications could rise by around 7% next month.
The Home Office says the extra money will help improve the application process and reduce reliance on tax funding. The changes would apply to both children and adults, as well as fast track and same day applications, with costs varying. If the proposals are approved, a standard online application made from the UK would rise by £6 from £82.50 to £88.50 for adults over 16. Children's applications would go up by £4, from £53.50 to £57.50.
A standard overseas online application would rise to £101 for adults and £65.50 for children. Paper applications made abroad would jump to £112.50 for adults and £77.00 for children. For example, a standard 10 year adult passport currently costs £82.50, which is broken down to a 68p monthly cost. If this passport has six months left but is renewed now, the owner would lose £4.08 but save £6 in application fees.
