A three-year-old boy has died after allegedly being left in a locked car “throughout the day” in south-west Sydney as the temperature eclipsed 30 degrees.

Emergency services were called to the vehicle parked outside a row of shops on Railway Parade in Glenfield, near Liverpool, about 3pm. Paramedics attended after a man known to the child, the car’s owner, reported he was unresponsive, but the boy died at the scene.Officers from Campbelltown City Police Area Command were told that the child had been in the car throughout the day.

The Bureau of Meteorology reported the temperature reached 31.6 degrees in Glenfield just before 4pm.
