The nightclub scene Clydeside used to be booming 🪩
An unearthed photo has sparked memories of Glasgow's lost riverside nightclub scene of the 1970s and 1980s.
Dozens of locals chipped in with responses, recalling the various guises of the venues over the years, including Spankies Disco, Waves, Coconut Grove, Devil's Advocate, the Trading Post and Pier 39 - but just about everybody made mention of the 1980s night club Panama Jax. The Clydeside Walkway was a public realm project thought up in the 1970s, as the council looked to make improvements to the Custom House Quay district where a number of buildings had been cleared.
Waves was another first for Glasgow. The waterfront venue had tables outside where punters could enjoy al fresco drinking by the Clyde.
