Wayne Thomas, despite being subject to an indefinite restraining order for a previous assault, attacked his ex-partner again after they reconciled. He was jailed for 50 weeks.

Wayne Thomas, a 42-year-old man from Halton Moor Road, Leeds , has been sentenced to 50 weeks in prison after violating a restraining order and assaulting his ex-partner. Thomas had previously been made the subject of an indefinite restraining order in February 2023 following an incident where he attempted to smash a glass into her face, causing injuries. Despite this order prohibiting him from contacting the victim, the pair reconciled in June 2024 and he had been living with her since then.

On December 28, 2023, after a night of drinking together, an argument broke out between Thomas and the woman. During the argument, Thomas became aggressive, verbally abusive, and ultimately assaulted her. He was arrested by the police after the woman called them. Thomas pleaded guilty to assault by beating and harassment by breach of a restraining order. In a victim personal statement, the woman described how Thomas, instead of protecting her, had put her through a living hell. His previous convictions include battery and breaches of court orders. While a Probation Service worker reported that Thomas's attendance during his suspended sentence was positive, ultimately, Judge Crowson sentenced him to 50 weeks imprisonment, stating that his recent efforts to improve were encouraging and that he hoped upon his release things would continue to improve
