Jack Jermy-Doyle, 25, was walking to get a taxi home with a friend in Preston city centre when they came across Jake Parkinson, 22, and Jak Fairclough, 28, high on drink and drugs.

A trainee barrister was killed with a single punch after being attacked by two strangers on a night out.

Preston Crown Court heard the duo had been 'making a nuisance of themselves,' and had been involved in a number of aggressive and homophobic incidents before they encountered Mr Jermy-Doyle in Harris Street.

His family also made the decision to donate his organs – including his heart and kidneys – in what they called his 'last act of kindness' which saved the lives of four people.Mr Jermy-Doyle, from Chorley, died on August 14 last year, just two weeks short of his 26th birthday. He was planning on proposing to his girlfriend, Kaitlyn Booth, at the time of his death.

'My boys should be here, growing into the loving fathers I knew they would be, but I will never hear or see those grandchildren. The house is now so quiet, missing the laughter, the music and debates that I had with Jack. He told Fairclough: 'You said in your police statement that the situation didn't even need to have happened, it was done in twenty seconds, it was pointless.. in that you were right.'
