After days of glorious sunshine, storms are expected in Greater Manchester on Thursday
Greater Manchester and the rest of the country could be hit by severe thunderstorms on Thursday with heavy rainfall potentially causing flooding and problems on the roads, according to Met Office forecasters.
The Met Office has issued a 'yellow' thunderstorm warning covering London and the south east on Wednesday and extended it to cover the rest of the country the following day, Thursday, when up to 50mm of rainfall could fall in the north.People are being warning about the potential for flooding, road closures and even power cuts in the worst hit areas.
"Elsewhere, an area of showery rain is likely to develop and move northeastwards across parts of Wales, the Midlands and northern England. This will be heavy and perhaps thundery at times, persisting through Thursday morning before easing towards midday. Some areas could receive rain accumulations of 25-50 mm over the course of a few hours.
