Tiger Woods has withdrawn from this week's Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines, marking his first missed PGA Tour event of the 2025 season. The decision comes following the recent passing of Woods' mother, Kultida Woods, at the age of 78. Woods, in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the support and understanding during this difficult time.
He acknowledged his initial intention to compete, driven by his late mother's desire for him to play, but stated that he's not yet ready to return to the course. Woods hopes to attend the tournament later in the week.This year's Genesis Invitational marks a significant change as it's the first time since 1998 that the event won't be held at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles. The devastating wildfires in the area forced organizers to relocate the tournament to the Torrey Pines course in San Diego. Woods was looking forward to making his 2025 season debut at Torrey Pines, but his mother's passing understandably led to his withdrawal.Woods last competed in a PGA Tour event at the Open last July, where he unfortunately missed the cut. Following the Open, he underwent surgery on his lower back last September, further extending his time away from the course. He returned to action in December at the PNC Championship, an unofficial tournament, and also participated in two matches at TGL, his new venture.
