I do not want to see anything that makes me think about my real, daytime life. I do not want to watch politicians. And yet the For You Page is infested with politicians., Secretary of State for Energy, Security and Net Zero, and Cabinet’s answer to Addison Rae, is on TikTok. Grant Shapps, the thinking man’s Emma Chamberlain, has nearly 15,000 followers on TikTok.
Little wonder that earlier this year when the Government banned the app on official devices – presumably because of security concerns and not concerns over it being deeply cringe to be using TikTok as an MP – Grant Shapps came out indignantly in support of his nascent influencer sideline,Shapps isn’t alone, and he’s not even the worst offender.
Ed Balls and Jeremy Corbyn are big posters, as are Labour’s resident Zoomer-adjacent MPs, Nadia Whittome and Zarah Sultana. It’s not the reserve of Brits either.
