TikTok recommends eating disorder videos to vulnerable teens, report finds 🔴 Ian Russell, the father of Molly Russell, told theipaper the findings in the report were “shocking but not surprising”

CCDH set up eight new TikTok accounts in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia that claimed to be 13 years old — the minimum age that most social media sites allow.

CCDH claimed that “vulnerable” users were quickly identified by TikTok and “capitalised on”. The study found that they were recommended around 12 times more self-harm and suicide videos than standard accounts, including content featuring razor blades and scissors. The report claimed that TikTok failed to moderate or label videos that appeared to promote self-harm and body image issues, and that “recovery content mingles freely with content that promotes eating disorders”.that “young people’s feeds are bombarded with harmful, harrowing content” on the Chinese-owned social media platform. He added that TikTok “recognises vulnerability and its response is to increase the amount of harmful content sent to that person”.

Ian Russell, the father of Molly Russell, said the findings in the CCDH report were “shocking but not surprising”. Tom Quinn, director of external affairs eating disorder charity Beat, said: “‘It’s extremely alarming that TikTok is allowing teenage users to view harmful eating disorder videos, with some users being shown eating disorder content as quickly as within eight minutes of being on the platform.
