Kyle Thomas, 19, boasts of having of having 30 animals at the facility, but is being probed following a capybara's death.
A teenage TikTok star's self-styled 'zoo' is being investigated following the death of one of his prize animals. Kyle Thomas bought 14 acres of land in Stoneyford, Co. Antrim, and made the move from Cambridgeshire to Northern Ireland.
Zena Foord, Kyle's mum who lives in nearby Lisburn, was convicted of keeping a dangerous wild animal with no licence in August. She pled guilty to keeping the capybara from October 6 to 24 last year and received a conditional discharge for two years. The capybara, which was understood to have been ill, has now sadly died. However, the Northern Ireland Executive's Department for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs said it was “not involved in euthanasia of a capybara”.
Zoos are subject “to a dual licensing regime”. Under the Welfare of Animals Act 1972, a ‘zoological establishment’ is described as “any premises where wild animals are permanently kept primarily for the purpose of exhibition to the public”. A spokesperson said: “DAERA will investigate this information and, where necessary, take appropriate action.”
