Social media personality Francis Bourgeois, known for his enthusiastic train videos, was on hand at Preston Docks to witness the last bitumen train journey. The train, operated by Colas Rail Freight, transported bitumen from Teesside refineries to the Total Energies plant in Preston. Due to declining bitumen volumes, road haulage will now be the primary mode of transport.

For more than two years, the movements, operated by Colas Rail Freight, have originated at Haverton Hill, near Billingham on Teesside.
