However, one TV and film critic on social media has highlighted an atmospheric horror series that she claims is so compelling, you'll want to devour all the episodes in one go.
In a TikTok video, Kaylee Kiara shared three of her favourite "10/10" series that have fewer than 40 episodes, making them perfect for bingeing in just a few sessions. One of Kaylee's selections is an underrated gem currently available on Netflix.
The series in question is The Haunting of Hill House, comprising just 10 episodes - meaning you could watch the whole thing in a single day if you're dedicated enough, or spread it across a couple of evenings if nearly 10 hours in front of the screen isn't quite your cup of tea. The Haunting of Hill House is a supernatural horror drama series created by Mike Flanagan, loosely adapted from Shirley Jackson's 1959 novel of the same name.
The show tracks one family across two timelines, following five grown-up siblings whose paranormal encounters at their former stately home, Hill House, continue to torment them in the present, alongside flashbacks to a momentous night in 1992, which forced the family to flee the unsettling mansion. Kaylee said of the series: "Let me tell you, it delivers. On the surface, it's a haunted house story. But it's really about a family dealing with grief across two timelines.
Everything is connected, nothing is wasted, and it's sitting at over 90 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes for a good reason.
" Those commenting on Kaylee's video couldn't help but concur with her verdict on the series, with some even labelling it a "masterpiece" and one of the "best shows" they have ever seen. One person said: "The Haunting of Hill House is the best thing I have ever watched.
" Another added: "The Haunting of Hill House is 10/10 masterpiece. " The Haunting of Hill House is distinctive in that it features two actors for every character.
In the case of the children, both an adult and a child actor portray each character across the two timelines, while the family patriarch Hugh Crain is played by Timothy Hutton in the older, present-day version, with Henry Thomas - who portrayed Elliott Taylor in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial as a youngster - taking on the role of a younger Hugh in the flashback sequences.
