TikTokkers are convinced that a £1.49 moisturising cream is a dupe for a £2k luxury product loved by celebs. But is this true? A dermatologist has explained the difference between the budget Nivea buy and the luxury Crème de La Mer product – and whether or not shoppers could be making a hefty saving by switching to the budget buy instead?
'Lots of the ingredients are the same' Radio DJ and author Annie Mac was one of the first to share the similarities between the two creams – one of which retails for £1.49 on the Boots website and the other, *ahem*, for £2,160.00 on LookFantastic.Photo credit : Boots / LookFantastic She explained, on TikTok:And others have come forward to say the same thing – pointing out that lots of the ingredients listed in each moisturiser are the same.
'Nivea and La Mer are unfortunately not dupes, however there's a very, very valid reason as to why people are even comparing them in the first place.Jane then shared the science behind why this is, adding that both the Nivea and the La Mer creams share the same water-in-oil emulsifier, the 'ingredient holding the water and oil together'.
