Technically, the NBA's future on TNT is not yet over.The cable network still has one year remaining in a broadcast partnership that began in 1989. After that, TNT will be out of the picture entirely depending on the outcome of a lawsuit filed by Warner Bros. Discovery after the NBA announced that it was rejecting its bid in July in favor of Amazon Prime Video.
While the 2024 NBA Finals were underway, Barkley said he planned to retire. At the time, the future of the NBA media rights beyond this year was uncertain.The 61-year-old Barkley confirmed he had been talking to Amazon Prime Video, Disney, and NBC about leaving his home network at the time, but was ready to step away from the camera altogether.
