The playmaker is set to end his 18 month spell at Ibrox after handing in a transfer request
Michael Beale expected big things from Todd Cantwell after his first few months as a Rangers player - telling fans to "enjoy him while he’s in our league".
A return to the English Championship could be on the cards, Cantwell having made the move north from Norwich City just 18 months ago - with reports stating Cardiff are keen on a deal. However, it's a far cry from the hype dished out by Beale over the Rangers man during a spat with Record Sport columnist Chris Sutton. Beale blasted back at the former Celtic striker for claiming Cantwell had been "going down too easy" during matches following a tumble against Hibs back in May 2023.
"Anywhere else on the pitch it’s a foul. What’s Todd going to fall over there for? It becomes a narrative around it. He’s doing really well. I think people should just enjoy him while he’s in our league. He’s been in our league a few months and shown lots of bright things. Again tonight a fantastic goal. He’s feisty, he wants to play the game with passion. He’s everything fans want."
Listening to the noise away from the pitch has been a criticism harking back to his days at Carrow Road with former Norwich star and coach Darren Huckerbery telling the star work was required back in 2019: “He was always the most gifted, but needed more work mentally than the others.
