A toddler tragically drowned in a garden bin after her mother was compelled to leave her with strangers to visit her baby undergoing heart surgery in hospital. The mother, Balikis, told an inquest she didn't know or trust the individuals looking after her daughter, Mazeedat, but felt compelled to leave her due to circumstances. Balikis had previously sought assistance from Newham Council but was advised to find help from friends, leading to the tragic incident on January 29, 2022.
The council had responsibility to support the family but failed to arrange a foster placement despite the mother's request
