Tokyo 2020 chiefs spray SNOW on spectators as they test ways to cool down fans in extreme heat
TOKYO saw snow despite balmy 25C temperatures as Olympic chiefs tested systems for cooling down fans. Next summer's Games are expected to see sweltering heat after 65 people died after a summer heatwave in Japan last year.
Fans looked like they were enjoying the cooldown- including spraying artificial snow into the stands. At a rowing test event, 300kg was sprayed over punters at the Sea Forest Waterway venue to see if the heat and humidity was reduced.Head of communication, command and control Takashi Okamura said: "The advantage of this machine is having a spray device to help the audience feel refreshed - and the amusement factor."Japanese organisers are concerned about potential soaring temperatures in TokyoThe Japanese are set to unveil plenty of advanced technology, with reports suggesting that a flying car might make an appearance at the opening ceremony. It is believed car giants Toyota are planning on unveiling the compact vehicle, potentially piloted by an athlete, that will deliver the Olympic torch. And this isn't a gimmick from Toyota, who are hoping to launch their flying motor to regular punters the same year.
