Some stellar advice from Sir Alex Ferguson as Cleverley takes on the role as Watford interim head coach
Former Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley has been placed in caretaker charge of Watford after they sacked boss Valerien Ismael following a run of only one win in 10 league games.
Having begun his coaching badges when he returned to Vicarage Road six years ago, he was ready to step into coaching and credits the role with keeping him going after retirement. And he revealed once he made that switch, his old United mentor Sir Alex Ferguson was straight on the phone. "When I came back down south was when I really got a passion for trying to improve players and improve people. So that's where the journey started.
Ex-West Brom boss Ismael joined Watford in May 2023. The 47-year-old's departure means the club are now looking for their 11th head coach since 2018 and eighth since the end of the 2020-21 season.
