Some will argue that South Africa's Jesse Kriel did something similar to Curry in clashing with Scotland's Jack Dempsey
Whatever the case, let’s try to extend these arguments to a logical conclusion. What are people actually saying when accusing all these officials – it really has become similar to NFL, as this reporter long predicted it would – of missing a red-card incident or judging it wrongly? That they are corrupt, or biased, or useless, or don’t know the laws?
Okay, so we’d like more consistency? But how? More training, more replays, more cameras? An official to review the review? We could try simplifying the lawbook but as I recall one lengthy attempt to do so ended up extending it. Maybe World Rugby could do more to ensure all appointments are free from geographical proximity . As for the long-running perception the “lesser” nations are treated more harshly, that needs examining for proof and, if true, has to be stamped out. The way the laws are framed until the end of the World Cup at least, the legal height of the tackle line is at the shoulders so a small misjudgement of space and timing can lead to a blameless offence.
