When Tom Sanders attended his annual cancer screening, it was just another routine check-up. The 33 year old had been having the same test for a decade and nothing seemed amiss. However, during this particular visit, doctors found an 'area of concern' that needed further investigation, leading to a life-altering diagnosis. Tragically, it was later confirmed that Tom had colon cancer, also known as colorectal cancer, which develops in the colon or rectum.

'Finding out was tough – I'm quite active, doing a lot of running and outdoor activities – so it was pretty shocking to think this could have a big impact on that.' 'The surgery itself has a lot of complications. It felt like everything was moving so quickly.' Colon cancer is highly treatable and often curable when localised to the bowel.
