The project is based on the 2015 crime novel of the same name by Norwegian author Jo Nesbø, which was the first installment of the Olav Johansen series. Set in Oslo in the 1970s, it follows a turf war between two major gangs.
Per Deadline, as Blood on Snow heads into pre-sales at the Toronto International Film Festival, it has attached two major stars. Aaron Taylor-Johnson will be playing a lead role as the series' main character Olav Johansen, while Tom Hardy will play a supporting role as crime boss The Fisherman, who is in a rivalry with another gang leader named Hoffman, a character who is as yet uncast.
The movie will be directed by No Time to Die's Cary Joji Fukunaga and written by Jo Nesbø himself, who typically is not directly involved in the screenplays of adaptations of his works. Revisions to the script will come from Ben Power. Hardy, Fukunaga, and Nesbø are also producing alongside Dean Baker, Niclas Salomonsson, Hayden Lautenbach, Mike Larocca, Michael Schaefer, and executive producers Tallulah Fairfax, Damiano Tucci, Sophia Banks, and Tiziano Tucci.
Hoffman’s trusted hitman, Olav , is a cold, efficient killer, perfect for the job. But beneath his ruthless exterior lies an unexpected intelligence and an unwavering moral code shaped by a complicated childhood…When Hoffman orders his own wife to be murdered, Olav’s principles clash with his loyalties.
