Diosdado Valdez has been coming to Juneau for over 30 years, and in that time, he’s found another family off the ship.
This is Tongass Voices , a series from KTOO sharing weekly perspectives from the homelands of the Áak’w Kwáan and beyond.
I have a very good friend. He was my friend at home. He asked me if I want to come to work with him, also. So I said, ‘why not?’ At first, I said, ‘only one contract.’ But then when I started, then I realized, this is the job I wanted. I go home after each contract in the Philippines. I live in Mindanao, that is in Bukidnon. I work for six months, and then get to go home for two to three months, then back to work again.
