John Velos, who is a former mayor of the City of Prahran, is appealing a forgery conviction in Athens after a family legal dispute over the control of a resort on the edge of the Mediterranean Sea.
A Toorak lawyer and former mayor of the City of Prahran is appealing a forgery conviction in a Greek court after a family legal dispute over the control of a hotel resort worth $1.5 million on the edge of the Mediterranean Sea.
Velos has denied any wrongdoing through his Melbourne-based legal team. The 67-year-old lawyer practices in the areas of property, family and commercial law, as well as bankruptcy, insolvency and criminal law matters. The firm said responsibility for the alleged criminal act instead rested with Velos’ Greek lawyer, who failed to correctly complete paperwork for the company that owned the hotel in 2017.
