High-ranking Russian military officials killed in a Ukrainian missile attack in Kursk, further escalating tensions in the ongoing conflict.
Two high-ranking Russian officials, Lieutenant Colonel Valery Tereshchenko and Colonel Pavel Maletsky, were killed in a Ukrainian missile strike in Kursk on December 30th. The attack, believed to have used Storm Shadow missiles supplied by Britain, targeted a bunker where the officials were reportedly hiding. Eight officials were reportedly wounded and 22 injured in the strike.
The deaths were confirmed through funerals announced for the officials, though the Kremlin has not officially acknowledged their passing. The Russian Officers' Ice Hockey League announced Tereshchenko's death, while a friend confirmed Maletsky's death. This offensive follows a Russian attack on Kyiv on Christmas Day, which President Zelenskyy condemned as a deliberate and inhumane choice. Zelenskyy stated that Russia launched over 70 missiles, including ballistic ones, and more than 100 drones targeting Ukraine's energy sector.
