Paula Nicholas, a Detective Inspector with Police Scotland who is seconded to Interpol, made the claims at the trial of her estranged husband, businessman Russell Laing
A top cop has said she applied for an overseas job with an international crime busting organisation to escape her abusive ex-husband.
She said that, the night before, he had been “menacing and aggressive” while ranting at her and that “what he was saying was beyond hurtful”. She explained: “It was absolutely horrendous. I was crying. I was upset. I was also scared. The frequency and the severity of his attacks were getting worse. She told the court he continued to monitor her bank accounts and that she had to “justify” her withdrawals from the business account for her property portfolio. And she said the 50-year-old gave her “an enormous bouquet of flowers” when he appeared at her parents’ home after sending her “a ridiculous” birthday present of a bike in May 2019.
