"The other kids used to think I must be posh getting dropped off in a black hack when I won a funded place to attend private school. I think my upbringing shows that you can’t put people in pigeon holes – life isn’t like that. But Labour’s polling figures have been surging and they overturned a sizeable SNP majority to win the Rutherglen by-election and then took Tory seats in two by-elections in Mid Bedfordshire and Tamworth.
He said: “I’m a surgeon so I’m a pragmatist at heart, you can’t do surgery and not be pragmatic, you need to be evidence-based and do the absolute best for patients. I think we need to get these ideological silos in politics.
