The first of these is the Nimbys. The senior Tory Charles Walker warned on Thursday that a failure to build enough homes for young people threatens to kill the party.and Labour made inroads, there were plenty of Tory colleagues who took the opposite view. In Medway, where the Tories lost the council to Labour, the MP Kelly Tolhurst blamed “unrealistic housing targets” that had forced the local authority to “build really significant numbers of homes”.
Next up are the tax cutters. MP John Redwood was quick out of the starting blocks yesterday morning in warning that if the Prime Minister wants to “win back lost Conservative voters, he should try offering some Conservative policies”. His suggestion: “Cut taxes, get better value for state spending, and go for growth.”
