The Toronto Blue Jays placed a two-time All-Star on the injured list Tuesday, casting some doubt over his potential to be traded before the July 30 deadline.

The Toronto Blue Jays placed shortstop Bo Bichette on the 10-day injured list Tuesday, throwing a wrinkle into the fate of a potential trade deadline candidate if the Blue Jays decide to sell.Bichette, 26, has a strained right calf that will sideline him for at least the next 10 days. Toronto announced it has recalled infielder Orelvis Martinez from Triple-A, and that he will be active for its Tuesday night game against the Boston Red Sox.

Bichette is a two-time All-Star who began the 2024 season with a career batting average of .299, 89 home runs, and 51 stolen bases in 528 career games. The son of former major league slugger Dante Bichette, Bo formed an enviable young nucleus of second-generation stars with Blue Jays slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Biggio, the son of Hall of Famer Craig Biggio. The trio was supposed to lead the Blue Jays back into contention.
