The reportedly “interview style” conversation came after Ms Badenoch’s rapid rise in prominence following her bid to replace Boris Johnson as Conservative Party leader and Prime Minister.Mr Murdoch is known for courting close relationships with senior politicians from around the world and, despite losing out to Ms Truss, Ms Badenoch was – and is – still considered a future leadership contender. In a recent polling of Tory members, carried out by Conservative Home, she was the most popular choice to succeed Rishi Sunak as the next party leader. Despite a requirement to log all ministerial meetings the encounter did not appear on official government transparency records.She tweeted: “I had numerous meetings with businesses in the US, organised for me as the new Trade Secretary by the embassy. “One of them was Newscorp, with civil servants and embassy staff present. They logged all meetings but forgot to send the returns.” Ms Badenoch is also understood to have met with Mr Murdoch alongside her fellow Cabinet colleagues at a drinks event hosted by him earlier this year.
