Many Conservative Party members will delay voting until they hear more policies from the two contenders to replace Boris Johnson as prime minister

will receive their ballot papers by 5 August, leaving both the final two contenders just two weeks to convince early voters to come over to their side.

Mike Botting, chairman of the Orpington Conservative Association, said: “I’m between a rock and a hard place. Like many members, I’m going to take my time deciding which one to go for. Dennis King, the party chair in Tonbridge and Malling, said that while he was “minded to go for Rishi” that many members are “waiting to see what the candidates come up with to convince them over the next few weeks”.
