A documentary honoring Dave Myers, late co-host of Hairy Bikers, highlights the profound friendship he shared with Si King. The film showcases their affectionate bond, travels, and culinary adventures, culminating in a moving tribute organized by King and Myers' widow.
This beautiful tribute to Dave Myers is a testament to the power of friendship and to a life well-livedNow here’s a late-entry contender for the most moving, most heartwarming programme of the year: a documentary about Dave Myers ,. As this film was at pains to convey, Dave and Si were not just mates, but the very best of friends, and nigh-on inseparable.
Dave had had a difficult upbringing, both parents in poor health, while he himself suffered with alopecia. He would later lose his fiancée to cancer in 1998. Myers went on to become a make-up artist, and it was on the set of a TV programme in the early 1990s that he met King, who was working as an assistant director. They found they had much in common: both from the north , and obsessed with motorbikes and food.
We’re used to people who cook for a living dominating our television schedules, of course, but the Bikers were different. They were not belligerent kitchen bullies, nor seemingly possessed of problematical workplace behaviour. They were just nice blokes. They loved a good curry, and knew their way around a wok. Watching them was a heady delight.
Back in Barrow, the streets were thronged with people wanting to pay their respects. Dave’s widow was in tears, King was in tears. Personally, I can’t remember the last time I cried quite so frequently in the space of a single hour. It was exhausting. When the credits rolled, my wife had to fetch the mop.
What a beautiful tribute this was, what a testament to the power of friendship and of a life well-lived.CHRISTMAS TELEVISION
