Motorists in Standish, Greater Manchester, faced gridlock on Tuesday evening (January 21) due to temporary traffic lights on School Lane caused by emergency works by Electricity North West. The traffic congestion, described as 'outrageous' and a 'joke' by locals, stretched along Rectory Lane. Electricity North West apologized for the inconvenience, stating that the works, expected to be completed by Friday (January 24), are necessary to repair an underground power cable.
There was outrage over 'unbelievable' traffic in a Greater Manchester town. Pictures taken on Tuesday evening showed motorists completely gridlocked along Rectory Lane in Standish.
In a local social media group, the traffic was described as a 'joke' and 'outrageous'. Electricity North West are carrying out the works, which are expected to be completed by Friday . "Unbelievable. Took me 55 minutes to do a journey that usually takes 20," posted another, with a fourth motorist commenting: "Like always. Will Get a lot worse before it goes better" and "Just been in it, what a joke."
An update read: "School Lane, Standish - There are currently emergency works being undertaken by Electricity North West with temporary traffic signals in place. Works are expected to be completed by 24th January 2025."
