A police incident on the M66 northbound near Simister Island has caused major traffic delays on three Greater Manchester motorways.
Drivers are facing delays on three Greater Manchester motorways following an incident at one of the region's busiest traffic hotspots. Queues are building on the M60, M62 and M66. Traffic has been stopped on the M66 northbound following a 'police incident', according to the Inrix traffic monitoring system. Traffic is unable to join the M66 from the M62 as a result of the incident. Queues are forming on the M60 and M62 approaching Simister Island as a result.
There are also delays on the M66 southbound passing the scene on the opposite side of the motorway. The latest update from Inrix says: 'All traffic being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to police incident on M66 Northbound from J4 M60 J18 (Simister Island) to J3 Pilsworth Road (Hollins). Traffic is also unable to join from the M62 eastbound.' Further information about the incident is yet to be confirmed. Updates will be posted in this blog as soon as they are available
