West Yorkshire Police had been called to The Regent Pub in Kirkgate alerting them to an incident between "a man and a woman" on Saturday at around 1.50pm. A number of people had tried to intervene.
The victim, who has not been named, received immediate first aid from officers at the scene but later died in hospital where he was receiving treatment. Three people were arrested in connection with the incident but have been released on bail.Police received the first call at 1.50pm reporting an incident at the pub and a further call was made at 2.01pm to say the situation was escalating.
Detective Chief Inspector Al Weekes, of West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: "We understand that there has been an incident involving the deceased and a woman inside the pub and that a number of people have intervened. "A man has died, and it is vital that we establish what has taken place. We have already spoken to a number of witnesses, but I would urge anyone else who has seen any part of this incident to please make contact."
