Services to Lancashire stations were suspended after emergency services were called to the incident

Emergency services were called to the incident on Wednesday which resulted in trains to a number of stations, including two in Lancashire, being stopped. All lines between Manchester Victoria and Rochdale were suspended following the tragedy at Mills Hill Station in Middleton.

British Transport Police said their officers were called following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended and sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner. The incident was reported at around 11:53am on Wednesday. Emergency services worked on the scene to secure the area before services resumed at around 2pm.

National Rail had cancelled trains between Rochdale and Blackburn and Clitheroe and disruption was expected to last until around 5pm. A BTP spokesperson told the M.E.N: "Officers were called to Mills Hill railway station at 11.37am today to reports of a casualty on the tracks.
