A huge emergency services presence descended on the scene in Oldham last night
A huge emergency services presence descended on Wool Road in the Dobcross area last night over 'reports of concern for the welfare of a woman' in the water at the Huddersfield Narrow Canal. Police officers, firefighters and paramedics responded.
In a statement issued this morning, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "At 7pm last night we were called to reports of concern for welfare of a woman in the canal on Wool Road, Dobcross. Emergency services attended, and sadly, despite the best efforts of those at the scene, she was pronounced deceased.
