It's long been an institution in the area
A renowned tyre shop run by the same family for three generations has been serving customers across Merseyside and beyond for almost a century. Located on New Chester Road in Birkenhead , Frank Bather & Son Ltd, a tyre and exhaust business, was founded back in the 1920s. At a time when there were fewer cars on the road and new tyres would be supplied by dealerships and manufacturers, it was Frank Bather and his wife Elsie who saw a gap in the market to open their own business.
Liz said: 'In the 60s, Frank's grandfather built this fabulous, iconic building which is a proper 60s brick building. 'Nothing much has changed since. The Bather's never throw anything away - I'm surrounded by three generations of stuff and it's amazing really. People say you should change or upgrade this and the motto is if it's not broke don't fix it.
