Payton Wilson stood out massively, while the rookies ended up getting more first-team reps than ever before.

The first week of Pittsburgh Steelers training camp is over, but the team continues to change what it shows each day on Chuck Noll Field.Here are some thoughts from the fourth practice in Latrobe:Play 1: The Steelers come out in shotgun with Najee Harris to the left of Justin Fields.
Play 4: Fields steps back to pass, with two tight ends on the field in shotgun. George Pickens is running a corner route, but Joey Porter Jr. is in coverage as the ball falls through the back of the end zone. 3-1 offense. Play 7: La’Mical Perine takes the halfback dive right up the middle behind Mason McCormick and runs into the end zone for a touchdown. Offense wins 6-1.It is hard not to paint the rookies as the day’s story. Troy Fautanu, Payton Wilson, and Roman Wilson all got first-team reps. Zach Frazier has not received such reps yet, but it feels like it is a matter of time before those come.
But outside of those two, it is a roller coaster ride. Calvin Austin III has not translated over his excellent spring. Meanwhile, the rest of the depth chart seems fine for depth pieces, but there is no obvious WR2 on the roster. The Steelers are putting a lot of trust into Van Jefferson and Wilson to step up in these places.
A lot has been made about the offensive linemen running laps if they false start or have a bad snap. That is one of Smith’s new hallmarks of accountability within the offense. The Steelers wanted structure and it seems like they got it.
