Just a ten-minute drive from the busy town centre of Retford, you will find the tranquil Idle Valley Nature Reserve. This beautiful site is one of the largest reserves in the East Midlands, and truly does have something for everyone.

Just a ten-minute drive from the busy town centre of Retford, you will find the tranquil Idle Valley Nature Reserve . This beautiful site is one of the largest reserves in the East Midlands, and truly does have something for everyone. I had never been to this 375-hectare site before, but after seeing some positive reviews online I decided to spend an afternoon there with my family and see what it was like.

There are several walks around the site, including a lovely wheelchair and pushchair-friendly lakeside walk and a brass rubbing trail. If you have young children you should make sure to stop by the treehouse play area, and we also came across a self-led den-building area which is a great idea. From nipping into the cafe afterwards we also spotted that you can hire a kid's discovery backpack from the shop so they can explore even more.
