Mr Harper repeatedly refused to give an answer on HS2, saying he would not comment on 'speculation in the media' that the government is planning to scale it back

TodayThe Cabinet minister said he would not comment on “speculation in the media”.“We’re getting on with delivering HS2,” he said.

“I’m not going to comment, you wouldn’t expect me to comment on — well, you might want me to, but you wouldn’t expect me to comment on speculation that there has been in the media.” He would also not be drawn on questions surrounding whether the high-speed line would ever reach Euston in London. “I don’t think that gain comes from a single line that runs from London to Birmingham. I think it’s important we complete the network at least as far as Manchester and I hope one day beyond that.”
