KAYAK's latest report predicts how travel will change in the next five years, highlighting trends like personalized AI travel agents, multi-stop city hopping, wellness-focused vacations, and social media booking platforms.
Travel is poised for a significant transformation in the next five years, with travelers seeking out novel destinations and innovative ways to take vacations, according to a recent report. KAYAK's What the Future Travel Trend Report, developed in collaboration with The Future Laboratory, a renowned global futures consultancy, offers eight predictions for the travel landscape by 2030.
This comprehensive report draws upon a wealth of data, including social and cultural research, interviews with KAYAK executives and industry experts, survey insights from 9,100 individuals across nine countries, and a meticulous analysis of KAYAK user behavior. One notable trend highlighted in the report is the rise of AI-powered travel agents specializing in personalized travel experiences. Modern travelers prioritize flexibility, customized itineraries, and value AI tools for trip planning. By 2030, virtual AI assistants will seamlessly manage a wide range of travel arrangements, curating tailored trips and securing the best deals with ease. Another emerging trend is 'City Jumping,' where travelers will favor multi-stop journeys over traditional single-destination vacations. With 66% of survey respondents ranking travel as a top priority, there's a growing desire to explore multiple locations. As visa regulations relax globally, governments and tourism destinations are preparing for an influx of 'city-jumping' travelers.Furthermore, the report emphasizes the growing importance of 'Vitamin T' – trips that prioritize wellness. KAYAK observes a surge in wellness travel, with pools emerging as the most sought-after hotel amenity worldwide, followed by hot tubs, spas, and fitness facilities. Sixty percent of travelers prioritize relaxation, while 13% emphasize health and wellness. Destinations that promote longevity will become coveted additions to travelers' bucket lists. Social media is also poised to transform the travel booking landscape through 'Feedbooking.' Travelers will increasingly leverage social platforms for everything from finding inspiration to making bookings. Currently, 36% of travelers seek trip inspiration on social media, a trend expected to accelerate by 2030. KAYAK predicts that social media will evolve into a comprehensive travel shopping channel, with apps functioning as virtual travel storefronts. 'Virtual Voyages' will also become a reality, offering holographic concierges, automatic airfare refunds, and immersive experiences through VR entertainment. Travelers can anticipate virtual hotel room previews and in-flight VR entertainment, pushing the boundaries of travel innovation
