Travel warning issued as railway line to close for 19 DAYS amid major works

It's part of a £22 million project on the M62

Rail passengers are set for more than two weeks of disruption as a major piece of infrastructure is replaced. Part of the M62 will close for two weekends as the Castleton railway bridge is replaced near Rochdale - in a scheme costing £22 million.

No rail services will run between Manchester Victoria and Rochdale from Friday, September 6, up to and including Tuesday, September 24. For those 19 days, a rail replacement bus will be in use between Victoria and Rochdale.The closure will also affect passengers calling at Moston, Mills Hill and Castleton stations. This will affect local stopping services run by Northern, which usually run between Victoria and Leeds via Rochdale.

On the two following weekends - 14, 15, 21 and 22 September - a rail replacement bus will operate between Hebden Bridge and Victoria. A spokesperson for Northern said: "Network Rail is investing more than £20m in rebuilding a major railway bridge that takes trains over the M62 in Castleton, near Rochdale.
