Residents said they were 'shocked' about the planning application for their small village
Residents in a Nottinghamshire village say they are "shocked" the planning application for a traveller site on their doorstep. Many villagers in Besthorpe were not pleased to find out that a site for eight pitches had been proposed for land off Sand Lane in the "quiet" village, near Collingham.
Besthorpe resident, David Kirrage, 61, said: "I don't think it's particularly good for the area, obviously with extra strain on the village. Other people have gone for planning permission on other things around and can't get it. Although Environmental Health has not made a formal comment on the application, it has acknowledged the development falls within flood zone 1, and due to this they have no flood risk concerns for the site. The potential site would be built close to the main road, which already experiences a high volume of traffic through the day, from heavy goods vehicles as well as residential traffic.
