Not a single Lancashire-based chip shop makes the shortlist
A complete injustice has taken place. Not a single Lancashire chippy has made it into the Fish and Chip Awards top 40 list for 2022. You may have read that first sentence, mouths wide open and maybe even uttered an audible gasp, just like we did when we first combed the list looking for a Lancashire chip shop.
But sadly and inexplicably, none of our fine establishments have made the cut, with the forty eateries now in with a chance of being named the Fish and Chip Takeaway of the Year. However, in good news, Angel Lane Chippie over the border in Penrith in Cumbria has made the prestigious shortlist following a "rigorous judging process".
Judging criteria looked at chippies having to demonstrate high levels of knowledge of the Fish & Chip industry, including customer service and environmental and sustainably good practices.Andrew Crook, president at The National Federation of Fish Friers, who run the awards after taking over from Seafish, said: “Being able to announce the top 40 finalists for this category is an absolute pleasure. It is no secret that the industry are facing some challenges.
"And with spirit and determination we are committed to supporting our members and seeing through tough times. " The overall winner will be announced at a ceremony in London on February 28, 2023. The full shortlist can be found here.Which Lancashire chippy would you have liked to see on the shortlist? IS your local the best you have ever tasted? Let us know in the comments
