Independent adviser on social cohesion and resilience Dame Sara Khan joins us now. She's releasing a report tomorrow which highlights issues surrounding self-censorship, harassment and abuse. The former counter-extremism commissioner is asked first about a case at Batley Grammar School in West Yorkshire, where a teacher was forced into hiding and received death threats after showing a class a picture of the prophet Muhammed. 'It's a shocking example,' she says.
'It still shocks me today that in our democracy, in this day and age, that a teacher just in the course of his duty was forced into hiding because of his activity, because he was delivering a legitimate education on a lesson with no malicious intent.' Turning to her report, which will be released in full tomorrow, she says polling shows 'over three-quarters of the public have refrained from expressing their personal opinion in public because of fear that they will receive harassment.
